'Fragile Fingerprints and Lilies'

Helen Heathwood

Ceramic Underglaze Sgraffito and Raku firing

September 14th - 26th
Opening : Saturday September 14th 2pm -3pm

Helen has been a potter, both hand building and throwing on the pottery wheel, since studying at college in the 70's.
"Under the guidance of Australian Ceramic Artist Peter Travis I developed a fascination with creating pinched forms as well as wheel throwing" says Helen.
Presently, her creative space is the ceramics studio at the Hazelhurst Gallery in Sydney. Many of her thrown forms have aquatic images etched into them using underglazes and the sgraffito technique. All things aquatic representing sustenance in relation to the ebb and flow of life. On a physical level, human beings maintain a relationship with earth and water to survive. Her present works of water lilies and aquatic life signify her own hope amid the struggles of life. Symbolically water lilies are said to represent resilience in overcoming adversity as they emerge from the bottom of a muddy or stagnant pond, floating on top, perfectly formed and untouched by the quagmire.
Be assured this exhibition is an experience of beautiful tactile and visual impact and one that should not be missed!

Sun Moon Art Exhibition

Margaret Christianson Janine Delgos

Watercolour, ink and acrylics.

Opening: Saturday September 14th 2-3pm>

A unique collaboration and celebration of painting ,watercolour and ink reflecting techniques and skills that have been taught, learnt and honed over time by two friends.

Many suns and moons ago, Melbourne based artist, Margaret Christianson, met Janine at college back in the 80's, marking the beginning of an exciting artistic journey that has continued to this day. The SUN symbolises the light of discovery, while the MOON reflects our achievements and what is yet to come.

Creating art has been a constant companion of Margaret's, always guiding her to new places for inspiration, which she then interprets into colourful artworks and memories. Travel is also an essential part of her life. In recent times, Queensland has become her winter escape from Melbourne, a dedicated time to paint in the warmth of the SUN. The light is distinctly different from that of Melbourne, with colours bouncing vividly off the canvas.

One of the greatest joys of these escapes has been reconnecting with Janine after so many years and creating art together again. She is the MOON, and Margaret is the SUN, and we now proudly present their collaborative exhibition for you all to enjoy.

Refreshments and nibbles on arrival

To coincide with the exhibition, Margaret and Janine will be providing an insight into their techniques with workshops on the weekend following the opening.
